The night curfew has returned in many Portuguese cities, including the capital and Porto, where health authorities are beginning to regret the over-accelerated re-opening in recent weeks. But to declare a new state of emergency, they need the go-ahead from the President, the conservative Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, who is reluctant at the moment.

Paris is not doing so much better. The Delta variant has been confirmed in 50 percent of the new cases identified in the country. This was stated by the French Health Minister, Olivier Veran, to radio station France Inter. The trend is growing, according to Veran, convinced that over the weekend the variant of COVID-19 identified for the first time in India will become the majority.

The Ministry of Health has launched an alert to all regional health counselors to ask for more attention and further containment efforts to avoid the growth of COVID cases due to tourists and fans.

Spanish health authorities were positively reporting of taking part in parties and large-scale events without protective measures, only to now have a large outbreak taking place in students returning from the Balearic Islands. Also in the Netherlands, the main suspect of the increase in cases is tourism. They have identified 81 positives on 16 flights from Palma de Mallorca, and another 60 on another 14 air connections from Algarve, Portugal. In general, there have been 205 new positives, all being 15- to 29-year-olds who had been in Spain or Portugal.

The Finnish health authorities, on the other hand, trace the increase in cases to travel following the matches of the European football championship that took place in Russia: 481 confirmed cases of people on board the return flights, and 165 secondary cases. All fan samples sequenced so far belong to the Delta variant of the virus.

Malta has had an increase in COVID cases with 130 Italians blocked from leaving the island as 21 of them tested positive. Language schools on Malta are to close on July 14, 2021.

COVID-19 has also entered the Rome office of the Rai-TV center in Italy. Five Rai employees of Saxi Rubra are infected with the coronavirus, while 9 would-be workers are in precautionary isolation for having had direct contact with employees that tested positive.
